Cottage Etiquette
Safety
First and foremost, please keep a constant watch on
the little ones. Even though they may be good
swimmers, accidents can happen. Unlike the pool at
home, there is no fence to prevent them from dashing
straight into the lake.
Septic Tank
The toilet sinks and showers are connected to the
septic tank, a system of tanks that allows the waste to
filter slowly into the ground, and the key word is
"slowly". It is designed in this case to handle a
maximum of 8 people.
Running the water for a long period of time, taking
several showers within a short period of time or
flushing anything other than human waste, including
grease and solids in the sink will cause the sewer to
back up. And by all means, you do not want that to
happen.
Please be sensitive to this issue and be conservative.
Power Failure
In case of a power failure, do not flush the toilet or run
the water downstairs as the waste must be pumped up
to the septic.
Cleaning
We love to have you back over and over again, as many
of the renters do and consider this cottage, as their
summer home... Out of courtesy to everyone else, we
kindly ask you that you clean up before you leave and
return the cottage to the clean condition you received
it. Septic friendly cleaning agents are available under
the kitchen and lower bathroom sinks.
Garbage
The county has implemented a strict and mandatory
recycling program,
You must use clear bags. There are 3 separate
containers at the cottage,
One for "containers" ( glass, plastic bottles, metal cans
and styrofoam cups), please rinse.
One for fibres ( papers, milk and juice cartons), please
remove the caps and straws and rinse, located under
the sink.
One for household garbage, located by the window.
Please do not forget to remove all the garbage and
take it to the dump, otherwise a 50$ charge will be
deducted from your deposit, for garbage disposal. Do
not leave any garbage outside. The closest dump is
South Bay landfill, located on Hodgson rd. on your right
hand side as your are going to the cottage it is open
during the summer between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You
might need the red dump card to show the attendant,
please return it to the bulletin board. For more
information click here.
Those pesky little critters
They will take every opportunity to move in, so keep
the doors or screens closed at all time. As cute as they
are, please refrain from feeding the squirrels and
chipmunks as they will certainly invade your space.
Fire pit
For safety reason and to keep the beachfront clean,
please do not move or start another fire pit.
Burning Regulations In Effect April 1 to October 31:
No burning between two (2) hours after sunrise and
two (2) hours before sunset
Fires must be attended at all times
Person in charge must be competent
Must have adequate equipment to extinguish fire
Person is responsible for any damages
Fire must be away from combustible material by at
least three (3) meters
Pile not to exceed two (2) feet high
Water Crafts
Please keep the boat/canoe tied to the dock. Pull it up
on the dock or beach, face down, at the end of your
stay.
Pine Floors
We would kindly request the renters to take their shoes
off indoor. The sand is easily tracked in and will
damage the pine flooring.
Internet Access
This cottage is equipped with Hi-speed wireless
internet. Bring your own laptop with a wireless
adapter. The computer will make the connection
automatically.
Phone
Cell phone reception, depending on the conditions, is
also present , albeit spotty at times ( as tested for Bell,
Rogers and Fido).
Driveway
There is enough parking for several cars. Please take
care going up or down the driveway, it is relatively
steep. For the winter, a front wheel or 4 wheel drive is
recommended. Although the driveway is regularly
cleared and sanded for traction, it may pose a
challenge if the conditions are snowy or icy.
All else fails, there will be a cleared parking spot at the
top of the hill for one car.
