Cottage Etiquette

Safety

First and foremost, please keep a constant watch on the little ones. Even though they may be good swimmers, accidents can happen. Unlike the pool at home, there is no fence to prevent them from dashing straight into the lake.

Septic Tank

The toilet sinks and showers are connected to the septic tank, a system of tanks that allows the waste  to filter slowly into the ground, and the key word is "slowly". It is designed in this case to handle a maximum of 8 people. Running the water for a long  period of time, taking several showers within a short period of time  or flushing anything other than human waste, including grease and solids in the sink will cause the sewer to back up. And by all means, you do not want that to happen. Please be sensitive to this issue and be conservative.

Power Failure

In case of a power failure, do not flush the toilet or run the water downstairs as the waste must be pumped up to the septic.

Cleaning

We love to have you back over and over again, as many of the renters do and consider this cottage, as their summer home... Out of courtesy to everyone else, we kindly ask you that you clean up before you leave and return the cottage to the clean condition you received it. Septic friendly cleaning agents are available under the kitchen and lower bathroom sinks.

Garbage

The county has implemented a strict and mandatory recycling program, You must use clear bags. There are 3 separate containers at the cottage, One for "containers" ( glass, plastic bottles, metal cans and styrofoam cups), please rinse. One for fibres ( papers, milk and juice cartons), please remove the caps and straws and rinse, located under the sink. One for household garbage, located by the window. Please do not forget to remove all the garbage and take it to the dump, otherwise a 50$ charge will be deducted from your deposit, for garbage disposal. Do not leave any garbage outside. The closest dump is South Bay landfill, located on Hodgson rd. on your right hand side as your are going to the cottage it is open during the summer between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You might  need the red dump card to show the attendant, please return it to the bulletin board. For more information click here.

Although the driveway is regularly cleared and sanded for traction, it may pose a challenge if the conditions are snowy or icy. All else fails,  there will be a cleared parking spot at the top of the hill for one car.
